Today is an historic day for the United States of America. In 1776 the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress meaning complete independence from Great Britain. The United States of America was formed as an independent country and as a result, Independence Day is a special day for us to take pride in the birth of our incredible nation.

This year the celebrations for Independence Day will be extra special as Independence Day falls on a Thursday. This means that most people will make this an extended weekend to celebrate.

Here at Stiltz Home Elevators, we look at some ways to make your Independence Day count:

Host a party

Independence Day is a great day for a family reunion or a get together with friends. You can be the host and invite friends and family over for a party. You can bring joy and excitement to the party with a patriotic red, white, and blue themed banquet or a backyard BBQ.

Socializing is the focus, but festive food, drinks, and décor helps to get everyone in the mood.  Perhaps you could bake a cake to feature as a centre piece to showcase your talents and patriotism.

Attend a parade or community event

Communities will be coming together to celebrate and there will be events taking place locally to you. There will be parades, outdoor concerts, political ceremonies, carnivals, fairs, hot dog eating contests and more that you can attend.

Take stock of what is going on locally to you so that you can get involved and join in with your local community. You could attend in style by getting dressed up in patriotic attire to help get you in the mood.

Attend a Firework Display

As evening descends there is likely to be a firework show near where you live.

Check them out and see your evening in with a bang. If you live near any of the major cities such as New York City, Chicago, San Diego, Boston, St. Louis, San Francisco, Detroit, and Washington, D.C. there will be major firework displays that will be incredible to watch.

Community events do not happen without the hard work and dedication of volunteers. Volunteering provides opportunities to meet new people, expand social networks, and build relationships that can be both personally and professionally rewarding.

Consider helping and giving back to the community. You will get a boost of mental well-being and might even make some new friends.

Watch a movie marathon

It is not just Independence Day with Will Smith that is relevant for an Independence Day movie marathon.

There are a lot of films about America’s history, culture and that are simply fun to kick back, relax and enjoy with a beer in hand and some chips at the ready. From Jacky to Lincoln for historic films, to the Tom Gun film series for the ultimate hit of American action movies. There is something for everyone.

Visit a historical landmark or museum

Independence Day is a great time to consider our history and visit a historical landmark or museum.

The ultimate destination is the Independence Hall in Pennsylvania where you can take a guided tour of where the declaration of Independence was signed, but there are many other places to consider visiting more locally to you.

From the Lincoln Memorial in Washington to the Freedom Trail in Boston, there is a lot to discover about how we became the United States of America and what makes us a great nation and the world’s foremost economic and military power.

Whatever you end up doing to celebrate Independence Day, make sure that you enjoy yourself to make the most of the extra days holiday!
